Walrus Wiki Status

"I accidentally the whole server."

Aug 22

So what the hell happened?

Once again, good evening.

Yesterday, August 21, 2010, the majority of Walrus Wiki’s data was deleted by a former sysop of Walrus Wiki. This sysop’s name was Charles (real name Ross Allan) and was a huge part of #iamthewalrus’ technical division responsible for maintaining Walrus Wiki and the Dreggle IRC network in which #iamthewalrus resides.

To really understand what exactly happened, we first need to touch on what happened before this event happened. For a few months before this happened #iamthewalrus has had a part in the development and operation of iCP, a Club Penguin private server that was being developed by Charles basically as a hobby. It was being funded by members of #iamthewalrus for profit via ads. These funds were being used to maintain the iCP server(s).

As always, #iamthewalrus members jumped on the chance to become moderators of the server for the sheer enjoyment of fucking with the players of iCP. After a while, Charles and a few other conspirators didn’t quite like this, and so they plotted against #iamthewalrus. Now no one was quite ballsy enough to actually commit the act, until yesterday, when Charles and another former walrus (Stanley) who was ejected from #iamthewalrus a few months ago when he was figured out to be a spy for the former owners of iCP (CPHaxer and Paul (the Mexican)) used Charles’ login data to access Walrus Wiki’s server and delete everything.

In my opinion, what Charles and Stanley did is probably one of the stupidest things they could have possibly conjugated together. Because of this, their only investor (who reiterating is a walrus) has left them. iCP will fall into the abyss. Not because we’re going to DDoS them (which we probably will). Not because we’re going to dox their leaders (which we probably will). But simply because they’re going to run out of money, and their server will be taken away from them.

Their actions will result their own demise. Not ours.

Walrus Wiki down due to Apache Vulnerability

Walrus Wiki is down due to an error in Apache making the site unable to properly support PHP. The IRCd is disabled in case the issue is broader than just the web server. We’re investigating the causes and we’ll keep this entry updated as soon as we know what’s going on.

[4/19/10, 11:07PM EST]: We believe the error is tied to an Apache update that was installed earlier today. If the theory is correct, both Walrus Wiki and the IRCd should be back online in under an hour.

[4/19/10, 11:12PM EST]: The botched update has been corrected. Apache is online and the IRCd will be online soon.
